Wooster Safety Center

Richard L. Bowen + Associates is teamed with J. G. Johnson Construction Company for the design-build of a new combined Police and Fire Safety Center for the City of Wooster, Ohio.

Working closely with the City and the users, RLB+A developed a detailed program of spaces and floor plans which provide distinct Police and Fire sections of the facility, but still capitalize on shared functions, such as locker rooms and training spaces, achieving both space and budget efficiencies.  Additionally, the building was strategically positioned on the sloping site to best accommodate fire engine maneuverability limitations out of the apparatus drive and to provide areas for on-site storm water retention ponds to comply with the City’s zoning requirements.

The two-story building and site will include the following spaces:

  • Offices for Police Administration, Detectives, Patrol, and Fire Administration
  • Fire Department Crew Quarters, including individual dorm rooms, showers, dayroom, and a screened outdoor patio
  • Vehicle apparatus bays with adjoining maintenance and storage areas
  • Classroom and Training areas, including locker rooms with shower facilities
  • Evidence Processing suite, including specialized testing spaces and property storage
  • K9 Unit room with outdoor access
  • Interview rooms
  • Public lobby and parking area
  • Secure parking area for Police and Fire personnel
  • On-site storm water retention
