Barberton High School Renovations with Roof Replacement

Richard L. Bowen + Associates provided construction management for this phased renovation project. The 10-year old, two-story building houses grades 9 through 12 and includes gymnasiums, an auditorium, multiple academic wings, food service, and administrative and specialty spaces. Adjacent athletic fields include a football stadium, track/field/soccer complex and field house on a 45-acre site.

Phase I consisted of a parking lot, new circulation routes, concrete curb additions/modifications, new sidewalks, additional asphalt drives, additional storm drainage and sealcoating the entire parking area. This phase also included replacing the metal roof on the small gymnasium. Phase II required extensive modifications to existing HVAC and Electrical equipment, installation of new HVAC equipment and replacement of the building controls system, complete tear off and replacement of the roofing system and re-caulking of major portions of the building. The facility was occupied during the project which required complex phasing around the school year schedule.

Richard L. Bowen + Associates worked extensively with the Barberton City School District and the Ohio School Facilities Commission during the bid process to keep the project on schedule and on budget. Services during construction included managing progress/schedule/phasing, monitoring quality and safety and tracking costs.
