Brooklyn City Center

Bowen is working with the City of Brooklyn to create a new City Center. The project will centralize the existing civic campus by creating a new combined City Hall and Police Station on the same site as their recreation center. The former City Hall and Police facilities, across the street from the facility, will be demolished to make way for new community amenities.
Bowen worked closely with City Leadership through interviews and interactive charttes to refine a preliminary program made by others. By making floor plates of key spaces, Bowen found numerous opportunities to reduce square footage, leading to a more efficient and cost effective plan.
Bowen went on benchmarking visits of other area facilities with Brooklyn leadership. The opportunity to see client reactions to similar spaces in real time proved insightful in determining Brooklyn’s priorities.
Bowen makes public council presentations throughout the design process, keeping the community up to date with the shape the project is taking. Detailed plans and massing models help City Leadership and citizens fully understand the nature of the project, while also enabling more accurate estimates and informing early engineering narratives.
