Richard L. Bowen + Associates is providing architectural and engineering design for the new Educational Services Center of Cuyahoga County (ESC) headquarters. This newly designed space is comprised of two primary facilities located on the first and third floors of an existing 3-story office building in Independence, Ohio (constructed 1997).
The first floor space for the new ESC facility (15,300 SF) offers six conference and meeting rooms of varying sizes, configurations and amenities to serve both ESC and other visiting organizations or events. Lounge areas and additional restrooms are intentionally located to present an opportunity for mid-event breaks, while a centrally located kitchen efficiently serves the spaces when necessary.
The offices of ESC (23,000 SF) and their internal partners are designed to take advantage of the sweeping views of the Cleveland skyline offered by the third floor space. Private and open offices are configured to allow the south facing sun to penetrate deep into the floor plate without the obstruction of solid partitions, keeping with the porous and light filled environment envisioned by the organization. Open and enclosed collaboration areas defined by color tinted glazing are located throughout the third floor to allow meetings and conversations to occur informally as employees move about, while an open grid ceiling expands the visual height of the space at select areas.
