Mayfield Village, Ohio
A design-build police facility with a firing range that helps train neighboring communities
Bowen teamed with Panzica Construction for the Design-Build of a new 23,000 SF facility for the Mayfield Village Police Department. This civic facility includes police administration areas, dispatch/911 center, investigation offices, uniform patrol office area, locker rooms with showers, sally port/detention center with 1 holding cell and a police vehicle storage garage.
The project also features a 5-stall police shooting range. This range includes an armory, a weapons cleaning area, restroom and a target control room. Bowen architects and engineers developed the shell of the range, providing a concrete deck with steel beams to assist with noise reduction as well as ballistic integrity. The steel beams were oversized to provide for the extra weight of steel baffles to be suspended. A range equipment consultant was contracted to supply and install rooftop ventilation equipment. Our engineers designed the roof structure to accommodate this equipment. The range was located as far away from the police office areas as possible to mitigate any noise issues. The range has its own entrance so that other neighboring departments will be able to rent time for training.
