Norfolk Southern Moorman Yard

Richard L. Bowen + Associates, Inc. was contracted by Urban Engineers to provide full architectural services for this multi-phased renovation to a Norfolk Southern Rail Yard in Bellevue, Ohio.

Phase 1 began 2010 with the construction of a new 14,218 SF, 2-story Expedited Maintenance Facility (EMF) and Welfare facility. The EMF allows quick preventative maintenance service on locomotives. The Welfare Facility includes restrooms, locker rooms, a break room and office/training space.

Work continued in 2011 with the 15-foot by 120-foot expansion of the main locomotive building, to accommodate longer locomotive engines that require servicing. At the same time, Bowen designed a new Alternator Change-Out facility. This facility is just over 6,000 SF in size, large enough to remove and replace the alternators from the diesel locomotives. These alternators can be as large as a small car.

In 2015 Bowen began Phase 2 of expansion on the Moorman Yard. Bowen designed a new 16,000 SF single-story free-standing administrative facility, replacing the existing facility that was attached to the locomotive building. This former facility is being replaced by a 6,400 SF additional locomotive repair bay, which Bowen also provided the architectural services for. As a part of Phase 2, Bowen also designed a 1,080 SF, 2-story Foreman’s Annex which is adjacent to the locomotive building. The Foreman’s Annex is completed and is fully operational. The new administration building was completed in 2017. The new locomotive repair bay is currently under construction.
