Upgraded police facilities and a new public face for the civic complex.
The former 10,000-square-foot police station didn’t support its staff size or the needs of modern policing. The new facility has been enlarged to 37,000 square feet and introduces much-needed amenities including a community/training space, garage, firing range, locker rooms, and adequate administrative space to accommodate the City’s force of 34 sworn officers.
The new police station provided an opportunity to create a clear and distinct public entrance for both Police and City Hall on the same elevation. For years, City Hall was only accessible through the north entrance, requiring a long walk past the Court to City Hall’s offices. With the lack of parking and accessibility, the prominent face along Hilliard Boulevard became referred to as the back door. The addition of new visitor parking, ADA ramps to the City Hall Entrance, and redesigned landscaping draw the public to the front of the building and give the civic center a strong public-facing presence on Hilliard.
The new 12-day jail features a secure sally port, booking desk, holding rooms, detention cells, and both in-person and virtual visitation booths.
